Ram Thrift – Campus Thrift Marketplace

Project Scope

Ram Thrift is an online marketplace designed to facilitate the buying and selling of items within the Farmingdale State College community. The platform provides a secure and user-friendly space for students to exchange clothing, shoes, textbooks, electronics, and more. By promoting sustainability and affordability, Ram Thrift enhances campus life while fostering a community-driven shopping experience.

Technology Stack

  • Frontend: JavaFX (for desktop UI)
  • Backend: Firebase (for database & authentication)
  • Security: HTTPS encryption & RAM ID verification

Problem Statement

Many students struggle to find affordable and accessible options for everyday items like textbooks, electronics, and clothing. Traditional marketplaces often lack campus-specific security and convenience, making it difficult for students to safely engage in transactions. • Direct Messaging – Secure in-app chat for negotiating deals.

  • Smart Filters & Search – Advanced search and filtering options for effortless navigation.

  • Sustainable Marketplace – Encourages reusability, reducing waste and promoting affordability.
